Using vital sign data, this study assesses how well an artificial intelligence triage algorithm can automatically stratify hemorrhage risk in trauma patients. In the development of the APPRAISE-Hemorrhage Risk Index (HRI) algorithm, we used three commonly assessed vital signs—heart rate, diastolic blood pressure, and systolic blood pressure—to identify trauma patients with the greatest likelihood of hemorrhage. The algorithm preprocesses vital signs to identify and eliminate unreliable data, then an artificial intelligence-driven linear regression model analyzes the trustworthy data, resulting in stratification of hemorrhage risk into low (HRII), average (HRIII), and high (HRIIII) levels.
